Who is Hannah Montana? Miley Cyrus? How did Disney choose her?
Hannah Montana is the right thing for any young girl right now. She is basically Superman for tween girls. She’s got the secret identity, a more relevant superpower and a blond wig instead of a cape. Hannah Montana is much more than a passing fad, she’s one of the most top-rated kid’s shows of all time. “Hannah Montana” is believed to be so popular due to its appeal to teen audiences and its comedy factor which is quite strong in all of the It’s a Laugh Productions. But in order for Hannah to exist, there has to be a Miley Cyrus.
Miley Cyrus originally auditioned for the role of the “best friend” Lilly Romero, later changed to Lilly Truscott, but they thought she would be better for the main character, so she tried out for Zoe Stewart/Hannah Montana. Her character Miley Stewart is just a normal teenage girl at high school in California during the day, but at night, is the famous version of herself, Hannah Montana.
In December 2006, Disney announced plans to release Hannah Montana products including clothing apparel, stationery and dolls. They also announced that there will be a full fledge Hannah Montana tour. It ended up being one of the nation’s hottest tours, selling out within minutes when tickets went on sale last fall. The sold-out tour was so popular that the tickets had been scalped for hundreds of dollars. The Hannah Montana “Best of Both Worlds Tour” movie, made 29 million dollars it’s opening weekend. That made “Hannah Montana” the smallest release ever to get to #1. Hannah Montana mania is taking over, so buckle up and enjoy the ride.
