Hannah Montana’s first episode reached over 5 million viewers, the highest ratting for a Disney Channel premiere episode ever.  The series focuses on a girl who lives a double life as an average teenage school girl named Miley Stewart (played by Miley Cyrus) and a famous pop singer named Hannah Montana at night, concealing her real identity from the public, other than her close friends and family.  In addition to the high ratings of the TV series, concerts for Hannah Montana have also been exceedingly popular.Miley is just a normal teenage girl at high school in California during the day, but at night, Hannah Montana is the famous version of herself.  Gary Marsh, Disneychannel entertainment president said they chose Miley for the role of Hannah Montana because they saw a girl who has this natural ebullience and loves every minute of her life ,which shows in her demeanor and her performance.

• The main character was first named Zoe Stewart. Alyson Stoner and Jordan McCoy were both originally considered for the role. Along came Miley Cyrus and was handed the role who also got her name changed to Miley Stewart
• Miley originally auditioned to play Lily Truscott, but was adviced by the casting crew to audition for the title role of Hannah Montana, which she got.
• The show is set in Malibu
• In the episode where Robbie Ray Stewart (played by country star Billy Ray Cyrus) hurts his back, he says “Ow, my achey, breaky back” – a reference to his 90’s super hit “Achey, Breaky Heart“.
• While on the set, Miley taught Emily Osment how to play the guitar, and Emily in turn taught Miley to knit
